Artwork & Graphic Design Made by Hand (never AI-generated) using found objects and imagery from history.
Howdy! I’m Zack — an artist, shop owner and historian based in New England. I have twenty years of experience working as a professional designer. My workshop is in a 1770s homestead and American history is a driving force behind my work. I use found objects, public domain resources and other historic material as assets and inspiration for my projects. My mission is to rediscover and archive forgotten art and use it to create something new and lasting.

BRANDING
I have extensive experience as a brand and logo designer. I've created hundreds of original brands over the past 15+ years, many of which are still being used today. I have style rooted in history with a slight conceptual edge. I focus on lasting branding as opposed to trends. Your brand is one of the most important parts of your business and it's something needs to last. I am very hands-on and provide brand packages that AI could never create!

ILLUSTRATION
My process for illustration work usually involves researching and finding a historic object or graphic and drawing/digitizing it by hand. I combine elements from different found and historic public domain resources to either create something completely new, or bring new life into a lost piece of creative.

PHOTOGRAPHY
I am mainly an object/product photographer with a focus on historic objects and collections. I tend to shoot pieces in their natural environments with a focus on making the photo itself art. Natural lighting is unpredictable, but I use it when acceptable so that objects can be seen how the viewer would see them. For more light-demanding photoshoots like artwork where a controlled environment is necessary, I still try to setup in the natural setting of the object--a detail most would ignore, but I believe adds authenticity to the work.

TYPOGRAPHY
My process for typography and fonts is similar to my illustration approach. I find historic letterforms, labels, advertising, type samples, written details etc. and meticulously draw and digitize them. Sometimes creating an entire font based off of the style of a single letterform I have a deep interest in stencils and how they were used historically in branding and marketing (personally and commercially), and many of the fonts in my foundry reflect this.
